Course Evaluation Software with LMS & SIS Integration (2026): Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Banner & SITS

A procurement-focused guide to how the leading course evaluation platforms connect to your LMS and student information system — LTI launches, SIS roster sync, SSO — and where each tool genuinely fits.

If your course evaluation tool cannot pull course sections, enrolments, and instructor assignments straight from your student information system (SIS) — and cannot surface surveys inside the LMS where students already are — you will spend every term rebuilding rosters by hand and chasing response rates. For 2026, the tools that integrate cleanly are EvaSys, Explorance Blue, Watermark Course Evaluations & Surveys, Anthology, FeedbackFruits, and Koji, each connecting through the 1EdTech LTI standard (for LMS launch) and direct or API-based SIS synchronisation. The right choice depends less on whether a vendor "has an integration" and more on which system you treat as the source of truth, how automated the roster sync is, and what happens to the data after it is collected.

This guide maps the real integration architecture of each platform against LMS launch (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard/Anthology, Brightspace), SIS roster sync (Banner, Colleague, SITS, and API/SFTP feeds), and single sign-on — then explains where each tool is the honest best fit. Facts about competitor integrations are drawn from vendors' own published documentation as of publication; where a capability was not publicly documented, we say so rather than guess.

Two integrations, not one: LMS launch vs SIS sync

Buyers often collapse "integration" into a single checkbox. In practice course evaluation depends on two distinct connections:

  • LMS integration (LTI). Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), maintained by 1EdTech, lets an external tool appear inside Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, or Brightspace. Students see "Course Evaluations" in their module navigation; faculty see response dashboards without a second login. LTI 1.3 adds signed, OAuth-secured message passing and (via Names and Role Provisioning Services) can carry roster data. This is what drives response rates — evaluations shown in the LMS consistently outperform standalone email links.
  • SIS integration (roster sync). The SIS — Ellucian Banner or Colleague, SITS (Tribal) in the UK, or a homegrown system — is the authoritative record of which student is enrolled in which section and who teaches it. A course evaluation tool needs this to build the evaluation project: one survey per section, routed to the correct cohort, attributed to the correct instructor. Automated SIS sync is the difference between a QA office launching a term of evaluations in an afternoon and a team of administrators keying in sections for a week.

A tool can be strong on one and weak on the other. LTI-first tools embed beautifully in the LMS but may lean on the LMS (rather than the SIS) for roster truth; enterprise evaluation platforms sync deeply with the SIS but treat the LMS as a launch surface. Neither is wrong — it depends on where your institutional data lives.

How each tool actually integrates

EvaSys

EvaSys integrates with any LMS that supports the 1EdTech LTI standard — Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace by D2L, and Canvas — with all LMS-to-EvaSys traffic encrypted over HTTPS, and offers a dedicated Moodle block plugin. Version 7 broadened its LTI flexibility considerably. EvaSys is built around a central data source that ingests course and participant data (typically via structured CSV or API import) and then drives paper and online evaluation from one place. Where it fits: German-speaking and European institutions that still run hybrid paper/online evaluation and want a mature, on-premise-capable central engine.

Explorance Blue

Blue's integration story centres on the Blue Connector, which links the platform to Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle, plus a tightly embedded Canvas integration that surfaces evaluations and feedback inside the student and faculty experience. Blue is engineered to pull from institutional data sources (SIS and HR) to automate large, complex evaluation projects. Where it fits: large research universities running thousands of section evaluations a term that need rules-based automation and are prepared to resource the configuration.

Watermark Course Evaluations & Surveys

Watermark (formerly EvaluationKit) offers the most explicit SIS-first integration of the group: direct sync with Ellucian Banner and Colleague to pull courses, sections, and student/instructor enrolments, plus connectors for Anthology Blackboard, Canvas, and D2L Brightspace. Its pitch is fast setup — "integrate in minutes, not hours." Where it fits: North American institutions (and Banner/Colleague shops anywhere) that want turnkey SIS-driven setup.

Anthology

Anthology's evaluation tooling is closest to the Blackboard ecosystem, with native LMS behaviour and an Ellucian Banner integration. Note the 2025 financial turbulence around Anthology has made some buyers cautious about roadmap stability — a legitimate procurement consideration alongside pure integration fit. Where it fits: committed Blackboard/Anthology institutions consolidating on one vendor.

FeedbackFruits

FeedbackFruits is the most LMS-native option: its tools live inside the LMS via LTI and lean on the LMS for roster context, with a strong formative and peer-feedback emphasis. Its standalone SIS synchronisation is lighter because the LMS is the integration surface. Where it fits: institutions whose evaluation strategy is continuous and embedded in teaching, not a once-a-term summative survey.

Qualtrics

Qualtrics is a general-purpose experience platform with formidable statistics and Text iQ, and it can be launched via LTI and fed by API/SFTP automations — but it has no purpose-built course-section roster sync. Building a full course evaluation cycle (one survey per section, instructor attribution, longitudinal reporting) is a configuration project. Where it fits: institutions with a Qualtrics enterprise licence and internal capacity to build and maintain the evaluation logic themselves.

Where Koji fits — and what integration is for

Koji connects the same way the enterprise tools do — LTI 1.3 launch inside Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, and Brightspace; SIS-agnostic roster sync via API, CSV, and SFTP so Banner, Colleague, SITS, or a bespoke system can all serve as the source of truth; and SAML 2.0 / OIDC single sign-on. Data is processed and stored in the EU under GDPR, which matters when roster data (personal data) crosses the integration boundary.

The difference is what happens after the roster lands. Traditional tools use the integration to deliver a static Likert survey and return you a spreadsheet of means. Koji uses it to launch an AI-moderated conversation: the same standardised opening questions for every student (so cohorts stay comparable), but with adaptive, neutral follow-up probes that ask "what specifically made the feedback unclear?" instead of leaving a 3/5 unexplained. Responses are then automatically theme-coded, so a head of teaching and learning opens a dashboard of reasons, not raw scores to hand-code. The integration plumbing is table stakes; the analysis is the point.

The same AI interview engine powers the main Koji platform at koji.so for general user and customer research — so an institution running both course evaluation and, say, student-experience or applicant research works with one consistent methodology.

Choosing honestly

  • You are a Banner/Colleague shop and want the fastest turnkey setup → Watermark.
  • You run huge, rules-heavy evaluation projects on a big SIS → Explorance Blue.
  • You still need paper + online and prefer a European, on-prem-capable engine → EvaSys.
  • You are all-in on Blackboard/Anthology → Anthology (weigh roadmap stability).
  • Your feedback is continuous and LMS-embedded, not once-a-term → FeedbackFruits.
  • You have Qualtrics and the internal capacity to build the logic → Qualtrics.
  • You want the integration to feed richer qualitative evidence, standardised and auto-analysed, hosted in the EU → Koji.

Integration should never be a reason to accept thin data. The tools above all connect to modern LMS and SIS stacks; the sharper question for 2026 is what each one lets you learn once the roster is synced.
